Happy Friday!
β
My middle son Calvin is 24 with severe autism. He can't communicate, but his school was able to teach him to read and write.
He can phonetically read anything you give him. He can write anything you ask him to write.
But he can't communicate about it--we don't know how much he understands.
He can go to YouTube and type different words and phrases for things he wants to watch.

β"elevators"
"legos"
"dominos"
"McDonald's"
β
This is how we use Google Search:
- Type a concept or phrase
- Get back pages of links
- Click until we find what we want
β
This is how I incorrectly started using Perplexity.
β
As a horror movie fan, I want to know what movies I've missed out on in 2024.
β
I search "horror movies 2024":
Results are expected, but that's not what I wanted.
β
Because I did a "Google Search" in Perplexity.
β
What do I really want?
I want to know the top horror movies in 2024 to see what I've missed so far.
β
THIS is what I wanted--and this is the FORMAT I wanted it in.
β
AI search is a complete mindset shift.
We're no longer searching for "concepts" -- we're searching for an answer to THE question.
β
It's been REALLY hard to change--we're hard-wired for search phrases.
I don't know about you, but I also love "click-sploring" the results. Let's face it--it can be fun and a great way to feel productive without being productive.
The big problem with click-sploring is that it can send us downtime-sucking rabbit trails.
β
With Perplexity, you're getting the answer you need without the distractions.
β
And yes, there's a small up-front time tax in writing the prompt, but getting the exact answer I need exactly the way I need it without rabbit trails is an amazing payoff!
